Wednesday, October 12. We will have a shortened period today but plan on presenting the four sections of Machiavelli’s Morals of The Prince that you began last Thursday, October 6. If we have time remaining we will also discuss Cicero’s Duties of the Individual to the State as a comparison/contrast.
Friday, October 14. We will be taking an open-book/open-note test on the Italian, Roman and Greek philosophers, Socrates,Plato, Cicero and Machiavelli. There will also be a timed-writing essay (45minutes). You will later edit these essays before receiving a final grade on them. We will take the essay first and then the remaining time will be used for the multiple-choice test.
In order to prepare for this test, it is in your best interest to re-read the four essays and take copious notes all over them–MARK THEM UP.
In addition you may want to be familiar with the following term for the purposes of recognizing them in the texts.
alliteration
allusion
allegory
analogy
rhetorical question
parallelism
antonyms
juxtaposition
antithesis
personification
